The Planning Commission is a five-member body that reviews and acts on matters related to planning, land use development and community development in general. In order to qualify a candidate must be a resident or employed within the incorporated limits of the City of Maywood for the entire term of office and a registered voter.
The Commission has an essential role in the planning process by acting as an advisory body to the City Council on all planning and development issues as well as functions as the decision-making body for a number of planning proposals.
Duties of the Planning Commission include but are not limited to: holding public hearings and meetings; reviewing the General Plan; reviewing and recommending zoning code regulations; reviewing subdivision maps; taking action on variances, conditional use permits, special use permits and evaluating property maintenance defect declarations and disputed interpretations of the City adopted Uniform Codes.
The Planning Commission also serves as the Building Board of Appeals.
